I have had the privilege of spending my professional career in funeral service. My former position at The Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home entailed the daily operating procedures and tasks associated with a funeral home. As a licensed West Virginia Pre-Need agent, I assumed control of the program and increased sales to a six-figure level in year one. In the two decades of service, this position enabled me to create and foster strong relationships with non-profit organizations and a myriad of businesses owners. I'm a strong advocate for Hospice of the Panhandle. I’ve had the privilege to work beside them for many years caring for and assisting individuals and their families during times of intense need. My late Great Uncle mentored and instilled the “old school” values that are crucial for success. Values such as a strong work ethic, kindness, respect and implementing a high level of customer service. These core values have been instrumental in laying the foundation for my professional career. For these, I will be forever grateful. I was born and raised in Charles Town, WV and graduated from Jefferson High School. While maintaining full-time employment at the funeral home, I graduated from Shepherd College and attended PIMS (University of Pittsburgh). I grew up in the tri-state area and have been here all of my life. I have been a resident of Falling Waters WV since 2004 & graduated from Middletown High School (Middletown, MD) in 1998 & then received my bachelor of science from Mt. St. Mary’s College in 2002. In May of 2001, I decided to join my father’s insurance agency. I learned the business from the ground up. I started out answering phones, filing, & doing the administrative work in the office. After a few months, I received my property & casualty license to sell & service insurance in August of 2001. Shortly thereafter I received my life & health license in February of 2002. I became an agent, selling & servicing a range of products, to clients located in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Ohio, & Wisconsin. My business philosophy aligns with one of the insurance carriers I represent, Erie Insurance. Erie’s founding principle states: “To provide our Policyholders with as near perfect protection, as near perfect service as is humanly possible, and to do so at the lowest possible cost.” I enjoy helping people understand their insurance coverages, helping people select the coverages and limits that are right for them, & most importantly, being an insurance advisor & not just an insurance salesman. We also make a point to attend our church, Faith Christian Fellowship every Sunday as well. I enjoy giving back to our community & am very passionate about volunteerism & kindness. I have started the Watch D.O.G.S. program (Dads Of Great Students) in our local schools, getting Dads to volunteer at least one day in the schools to show kids that Dads think education is important, it helps with anti-bullying, & gives the kids an added sense of security as well. With our kindness initiative, we try to encourage kind acts & our goal is to get people to do one more kind act than what they’ve done in the past. If we show kindness to others, our hope is it will spread to our future generations & make our world a kinder place. I am very involved in our local schools & volunteer as much as I can. I run a Facebook group which we use to thank teachers & staff & give them goodie bags & tokens of our appreciation to show them we are thankful for what they do & to remind them that we care.
