Kevin Walheim started the company back in 2008. Kevin got his insurance license in 2005 and started working for an Allstate agent to learn the industry. Kevin was paid a small salary and wanted big commission to make a good living so he figured out that Allstate was good at writing commercial auto insurance fleets for licensed contractors. Over the next 2 years Kevin dedicated himself and became the top commercial auto insurance producer in California by 2007. With all the success Kevin convinced his brother to open an Allstate agency so they can partner up and be successful together and that is what they did in April of 2008. For the next year and half Kevin averaged $40K of commercial auto insurance premium every month. Things got tough being captive and not being able to write contractor’s liability and workers comp insurance. Kevin and his brother decided to take the risk and sold their Allstate agency in November of 2009 to go independent and officially started Cal Commercial Insurance in September of 2009. Over the next couple years Cal Commercial Insurance got appointed with many major MGA’s including BTIS, SIS, and many more to really learn contractor’s liability insurance. Kevin also got appointed with many work comp carriers to learn that industry very well and the guidelines for contractors. 8 years later Kevin at Cal Commercial Insurance understands all the carriers underwriting guidelines, strengths and weaknesses for each carrier in order to help contactors get the best coverage at the best price. Kevin only writes contactors so no one understands all the complex underwriting criteria each carrier has to qualify for the best rates. Kevin’s brother now just handles the service side of the business and produces the insurance certificates very fast. He understands all the cert requirements and how to process them to meet the contract requirements.
