LeTip of Mt. Airy, MD officially completed its first full year this June — but our journey began much earlier. Over 80% of our members were previously part of another well-known networking group. When dues tripled and chapter-level support diminished, we knew it was time for a change.
Led by Curt Hall, our mortgage expert and former and current chapter president, we explored options. With Curt’s prior experience in LeTip, he reached out to the corporate team. The professionalism and support from Summer, Paul, and Maria made our transition an easy decision.
In June 2024, 13 core members made the move to LeTip — and we were fully up and running in just 2½ that month. We’ve since grown to 18 members and continue to thrive.
One key to our success has been our hybrid meeting format. We meet every Wednesday from 7:30–9:00 AM, giving members — many of whom are contractors — the flexibility to attend virtually or in person and still make it to job sites by 9:00 AM. It’s a format that works for our town and our team.
Our board operates as a close-knit team, with many of us working together for over 11 years plus. As new members join, they’re encouraged to step into leadership roles while being mentored by seasoned members — bringing fresh ideas and energy to the chapter.
Each board member takes their role seriously, constantly looking for ways to improve. We’ve learned that quality matters more than quantity; having the right people in the room leads to stronger connections and more valuable referrals.
Our membership team is a big part of that. They take the time to sit with each applicant, ensuring they understand our culture and come with a mindset of giving. We’ve found over the years that the more you give, the more you receive — and that philosophy continues to fuel our chapter’s long-term success.
Our chapter’s power teams are highly effective, especially among our contractors. On about 60% of jobs, one member refers another simply because clients often ask, “Can you also help with…?” Referrals happen on the spot, sometimes even with a live call. Our new QR-coded badges make it even easier for clients to connect with trusted providers instantly.
We also have a strong financial power team — mortgage, real estate, insurance, CPA, and financial planner — that works seamlessly together. One example: after a few 1-to-1s, our CPA referred six self-employed clients to our mortgage expert, kicking off a chain of referrals that involved nearly every team member.
These partnerships thrive on trust, communication, and a shared mindset of helping each other succeed.
In addition to our Wednesday morning meetings, our chapter regularly hosts Visitor Days — complete with homemade breakfast and shared responsibilities. It’s a team effort that runs smoothly and has become a tradition.
Under President Curt Hall’s leadership, we’ve started exploring more social gatherings at neutral venues, promoted through social media and private networks. Our first was a success and set the tone for more in the future.
We’ve also added a fun twist to boost email engagement. Curt hides a word or phrase in the weekly email; those who find and text it to him win a free lunch or happy hour. It’s a creative way to keep members informed, engaged and connected.
We round out the year with two signature events: a January holiday party for spouses/partners and a summer pool party for members and their families — both of which help deepen our strong chapter bonds.
