Don’t Waste a Slow Season
There are times when business seems to take care of itself. Your phone rings, your inbox stays full, and your calendar fills up weeks in advance.
Then there are the quieter seasons.
Maybe clients are on vacation. Maybe projects have wrapped up. Maybe your industry naturally slows down during certain times of the year. Whatever the reason, every business experiences periods when new opportunities aren’t coming in as quickly as they’d like.
When that happens, it’s easy to focus on what’s missing.
Instead, focus on what you’ve gained.
A slower season gives you something that’s hard to find when business is booming: time. Time to strengthen relationships, improve your business, and become an even better referral partner.
How you use that time can have a lasting impact on both your business and your chapter.
Invest in Relationships Before You Need Them
Most business owners reach out when they need something.
Successful networkers build relationships long before they need a referral.
If your schedule has opened up, use it to schedule a few One-to-Ones with members you’ve been meaning to get to know better. Sit down with someone whose business you don’t fully understand yet. Ask about their ideal client, the problems they solve, and the referrals that have made the biggest difference in their business.
Those conversations aren’t just about helping them—they help you become a better referral partner.
The more you understand another member’s business, the easier it becomes to recognize opportunities for them. And when they understand yours, they’re more likely to recognize opportunities for you.
Make Yourself Easier to Refer
Your chapter probably knows what you do.
The better question is, do they know who to refer?
A slow season is the perfect time to refresh how you talk about your business.
Instead of listing your services, describe your ideal client. Share a recent success story. Explain a common problem you solve. Give members a real example of someone they might meet who would benefit from an introduction to you.
The more clearly members can picture the referral, the more likely they are to recognize one when it comes along.
Outside of your chapter, use this time to strengthen your business, too. Update your website, refresh your LinkedIn profile, reconnect with past clients, or ask satisfied customers for online reviews. Those are the kinds of projects that often get pushed aside when business is busy, but they can make a real difference over time.
Help Your Chapter Grow While You Grow Your Business
One of the best parts of LeTip is that individual success and chapter success go hand in hand.
A stronger chapter creates more opportunities for everyone.
If business is slower than usual, look for ways to contribute beyond your own business.
Invite a visitor who would be a great addition to your chapter. Welcome guests before the meeting begins and introduce them to other members. Schedule a One-to-One with a newer member who is still learning about LeTip. Celebrate another member’s success. Volunteer when help is needed.
None of those actions guarantee an immediate referral.
What they do build is trust, stronger relationships, and a chapter people are excited to be part of.
Work On Your Business
When you’re busy, most of your time is spent working in your business.
A slower season gives you the opportunity to work on it.
Take a fresh look at your marketing. Update your client database. Practice your weekly commercial so it feels natural instead of rushed. Think about the questions people ask most often and how you answer them. Write down three referral examples you can share over the next few meetings.
Small improvements made consistently often have a bigger impact than one major change.
A Shift in Perspective
It’s easy to measure a productive week by the number of new clients you gained.
But some of the most valuable weeks in business are measured by the relationships you strengthened.
A One-to-One that helps you better understand another member’s business.
A visitor who decides to join because they felt welcome.
A conversation that changes the way someone thinks about referring you.
Those moments may not show up on this month’s revenue report, but they often lead to opportunities in the months ahead.
Before Your Next Chapter Meeting
Choose one action that will strengthen your business and one action that will strengthen your chapter.
Maybe you’ll schedule a One-to-One with someone you’ve been meaning to get to know better. Maybe you’ll invite a business owner to visit your chapter. Maybe you’ll refresh your weekly commercial so members have a clearer picture of your ideal referral. Maybe you’ll reconnect with a past client or ask a satisfied customer for a review.
You don’t have to change everything at once.
One intentional step for your business and one intentional step for your chapter is a great way to make the most of a slower season.
