We are at the time of year when gratitude and giving are more top of mind. We may also be thinking of charities we may want to donate to before year-end rolls around. This month we are highlighting our three non-profit members and their organizations, here at LeTip for you to get to know and consider when planning your 2023/2024 donations. Today we will be giving you a snippet on “Swim with Heart” based in California, “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County”, PA, and “National Scenic Visitors Center,” also based in Pennsylvania.
National Scenic Visitors Center
Mary Ellen Snyder is a member of the LeTip of Lehigh Valley, in Pennsylvania. She is the co-founder of the Earthwalk USA map and the National Scenic Visitors Center (NSVC) – a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. She also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the NSVC Board and Executive Director. Founded in 2016, the NSVC creates walkable maps that tell stories of geography, history, and culture of the area. Their vision is “to share the wonder of America’s diverse landscapes, instilling the passion to explore and the will to protect.” Starting in 2023, the National Scenic Visitors Center will begin the capital campaign for a permanent, large Earthwalk USA map in Eastern Pennsylvania. Big Brothers Big Sisters was “founded for the sole purpose of enriching lives of children and helping then achieve their full potential through professionally supported, on-to-one mentoring relationships.” Their goal has always been to make a positive difference to children through leadership development and mentoring, enabling those children to “achieve their highest potential,” as they grow into adulthood. BBBSBC has been serving the community since 1964. For more information, please reach out to Hayley, or visit the organization’s website at bbbsbc.org
Swim with Heart
Mikey Flaherty is a member of the LeTip of Westside Referrals Network chapter, in California – and serves on the Membership Committee. She has been a LeTip member since 2015 and is someone who ‘believes in the capacity of the human heart.” She was a member of the University of Southern California’s NCAA 1197 championship team. Mikey is the Executive Director of Swim with Heart, founded in 2010, “based on the philosophy that learning to swim cultivates confidence, courage, and independence in and out of the water.” This organization was founded “with the belief that each child of any age, can learn the joy of accomplishment and achievement through swimming.” They work with students and their individual needs, boost their confidence and tech while having fun, finding the best way to bring about success and “those successes in the pool always find a way to show up on land.” Our swimmers gain confidence while having fun and the results of these achievements have long-lasting impacts for the swimmer, their families, and the community.” To date, the nonprofit has worked with about 1,000 swimmers and their families.
