Training

What is training? Why do we need training? How does it affect me or my chapter?

The definition for training according to the dictionary:

Training is the process of learning the skills that you need for a particular job or activity. He called for much higher spending on education and training. Kennedy had no formal training as a decorator. …a one-day training course. Synonyms: instruction, practice, schooling, grounding

Here is a question I hear often;” I have been to training why do I need to go again”? When I hear this I am really sad for the person who is sending the message. As a life long learner, no matter how many times I have attended training for one reason or another, I come away from it renewed, reinvigorated and with more knowledge than before. I can actually give back more than I have taken from any group situation.

When we ask Board members to take Board training twice a year, it is not to penalize them, it is to help them become better leaders. After all, “the speed of the leader is the speed of the gang.” I am sure you have all heard that before. Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay cosmetics made it famous! Lee Iacocca said “The speed of the boss is the speed of the team. Ask yourself, is our leader up to speed so we can all be better and put more “Dollars in your pocket!”?

As board members, it is very important to learn how to do your specific roll but also how to give back to the entire organization you are creating, supporting and giving time and energy to. The structure of LeTip works well if the structure is followed and it is an ongoing opportunity of learning how and why from others who are successful and those who may be having difficulties. When we share and learn we all become better, stronger leaders!

New members need training to become the best networkers as soon as possible to help them give to as well as take from the chapter in the terms of tips or warm business. Why would you allow anyone to showboat, greet or speak if they have not taken new member training (NTS)? This is the first visual anyone has of a new member’s business and the new member does not have any idea of what to do to get your attention. They are pretty clueless on how to train you as a member to work for them as their salesforce. That is what new member training is for. Remember, we are training our sales force every time we have the chance to showboat, greet, and speak. Encourage all new members to get on a live training call up to 4 different times per month and encourage the requirement of the training before they are put on the schedule so they will give everyone a great first impression of their business and their abilities!

Training occurs in everyday life not just in your chapter. Can you remember the last time you offered training in your business or were asked to attend a training? Think back, was it a waste of time or did you learn at least one take away? We all need training even in our marriages! Think about where can you get training to really help you and at a cost that is priceless but actually costs pennies? It isn’t about the cost but the value you receive. We hope you receive great value from being a board member and a member of LeTip! Watch for your local board training coming soon!
